A Day at City of Rocks National Reserve

Pack up the water, a few snacks and get ready for a fun day adventure just a short drive from Twin Falls and head for the City of Rocks National Reserve. We left our home in Twin Falls at noon and traveled the relatively short distance to the park and hiked, picnicked and had great laughs and picture-taking stops. It is an incredible experience right out our back door.
The ancient granite spires seem to appear out of nowhere. It is like someone has drawn rock right from the earth to change the landscape. There are many miles of hiking, abundance of desert wildlife watching and world renowned rock climbing on over 600 routes. The City of Rocks encompasses over 14,000 acres of land. There is approximately 12 miles of road within the park and it provides opportunities for walks, hiking, camping, rock climbing, picnicking, and dark night-sky viewing. It is breathtaking when you view the expanse.
Take Hwy 84 west to the exit for Pomerelle Ski Resort and head south to the picturesque town of Albion. From there road signs will point the way to the park. Try not to rush as along the way you will not want to miss out on the history designated by historical sites markers.
If you have time to stop at Durkes Hot Springs or head back to the west to Miracle Hot Springs to soak those tired legs, either way you won't regret enjoying what makes Southern Idaho such an incredible place to live and adventure.
